5 Tips to Get You Motivated to Build Muscle

Anytime you take on a goal, you need motivation to get started and keep you going. Building muscle is no different. It takes time to see results. And unless you have motivation to keep going, you may feel like giving up. It doesn't matter whether you need help getting started, or you're halfway there but need a little extra boost to get to the end. Here are some motivations tips you can use while you're building muscle.

  1. Find pictures of what you'd like to be. Sometimes you need visuals to stay motivated. If this is the case, you can search for pictures of people that have the type of body you want. Put them up somewhere you'll see them on a regular basis to remind you of why you're working out. Just remember that everyone's bodies are different.   Don't be disappointed if your results aren't exactly the same as the photos. You have to be happy with getting your body to its own personal best.

  1. Set small achievable goals. There's no better feeling than when you finally meet a goal you've been striving for. While I'm sure you have an ultimate final goal, you may want to break it up into a few smaller goals. This way they feel achievable and not so overwhelming. Also you'll have more opportunities to celebrate when you reach your goals.

  1. Find rewards that motivate you. I don't know of anyone who doesn't like to be rewarded for a job well done. If you want motivation, then reward yourself every now and then. You can either give yourself small rewards more often or a couple of larger rewards. The choice is up to you. The type of reward is also your choice. You should choose something that that you look forward to and really makes you want to get up and get your workout done.

  1. Have a plan. Sometimes being organized and having a plan is all it takes to get motivated. It's hard to be motivated to work out if you never know when you're going to workout, for how long, and what you're going to do. Knowing all of these details ahead of time can help you focus more on your results than the process. So before you get started, take the time to make a detailed plan of what you're going to do to build the muscle.

  1. Don't be negative. Your thoughts and words can really affect your state of mind. If you focus on positive, motivating thoughts, then you'll feel more motivated. If you constantly tell yourself you can't do it, then pretty soon you'll start to believe it. You might try coming up with a few motivating phrases you can say to yourself when you feel negative thoughts creeping up.

You can choose to use one of these tips or all of them.  You really just need to find whatever motivates you the most.  It may be hanging up pictures that remind you of what you want to be.  It may be working towards a great reward.  Just do whatever it takes to get yourself moving.  You might even find that your motivation changes throughout the process.
